Last week, the East Bernard High School hosted the 2022 District 24-3A track and field meet at the Brahmas’ newly renovated track and field stadium. The Brahmas also hoisted both varsity team titles before hosting the area meet with District 23-3A.
East Bernard earned over 40 qualifiers for the area meets with top-four finishes, including 10 first-place finishes. The boys earned six gold medals, including the 4×200-meter relay with a time of one minute and 32.29 seconds. Colby Kurtz was first in the boys’ 800-meter run (2:04.60), 1,600-meter run (4:45.81) and 3,200-meter run (10:27.48). Boone Lee also took first place in the boys’ discus with a throw of 127 feet and nine inches.
Samantha Rabius won both the 100-meter hurdles (16.65) and the 300-meter hurdles (47.10) for the girls. She also won the long jump with a mark of 16 feet and seven inches. Sophia Vykukal won the high jump at five feet and three inches. Randon Polak earned the gold in the pole vault with a mark of 11 feet.
The Brazos Cougars shined on the girls’ side. The Cougars had seven efforts qualify for the area meet.
Esmeralda Garcia won the girls’ 3,200 meter run (12:06.70), 1,600 (5:24.76) and 800 meter (2:24.53). Rub Garica also qualified in the 3,200 meters (13:11.45) and 1,600 (5:57.91). Haiven Harris earned a spot in the 100 meters with a time of 13.36, and Aubani Cormier will run in the 300-meter hurdles (53.52).
