Sophie Scruggs and Jaquez White each captured two individual titles during the Region 1-AAA track finals.
Scruggs placed first in the 800-meter run (2:51.68) and the pole vault (10’6”) with White winning the long jump (20’3.75”) and 300m hurdles (40.40 seconds).
Host Pierce County finished third and fourth respectively in the girls’/boys’ two-day event held at Pierce County Middle School. Appling County pulled off the sweep of the region crowns. The Lady Pirates piled up 212 points to outdistance the field of five teams. Tattnall County (143) was second, followed by the Lady Bears (85), Long County (73) and Brantley County (66).
The Pirates captured the boys’ meet with 215 point. They were followed by Tattnall County (169), Long County (118), the Bears (63) and Brantley County (54).
The top four finishers in each of the 18 events advance to the Sectional meet (Regions 1, 3, 4, 8) Saturday, May 7 at East Jackson High School in Commerce.
The Lady Bears qualified five individuals who will participate in seven events and three relay teams. Joining Scruggs are Regan Larson (discus, shot put), Kylie Allen (discus), Kora Good (400m) and Natalie Daniels (1,600m). Three relay teams (100m, 200m and 400m) also qualified.
The Bears will have White competing in three events (long jump, 110m hurdles, 300m hurdles) and two relay teams (400m and 800m).
