Depth and scoring dominance in the sprints and relays parleyed the Twinsburg girls and boys track teams to a huge effort at the annual Reynolds Invitational at Joe Firment Stadium in Avon Saturday.

Twinsburg’s girls tied for the team championship in the 15-team field with powerful Westlake. Both teams amassed 93 points to finish ahead of Rocky River (77), Avon (76), Rocky River Magnificat (74), and league rival North Royalton (56).

“The girls tied for the team title at Avon,” said jubilant Tiger girls head coach Sarah Kmet.

“Our sprinters were dominant, winning all three relays and scoring two (each) in the 100, 200 and 400-meters,” added Kmet. “Chelby Walker (in the 100-meter hurdles) Jessica Mason (pole vault), Sarah Miller (1,600) and Sydnee Donegan (high and long jump) also contributed points towards the team score.”

In impressive fashion, the Twinsburg boys tallied 94 points to place second in the 17-team field to host and champion Avon (135).

The Tiger boys, coached by Anthony Byrd, beat strong programs such as Lakewood St. Edward (68), North Olmsted (60.5), Rocky River (56.5), and Bedford (49).

“Overall, it was a well-rounded team effort for both teams,” said Kmet. “Conditions were pretty chilly with the wind, but I am proud of how all our kids competed.”

Senior Logan Doyle starred for the Tigers boys as he captured a huge title in the 200-meter dash finals.

With a fast time of 22.03 seconds, Doyle won the crown over St Ed’s speedster Kyan Mason (22.39) and Avon’s Colin Kaufmann (22.41).

“Logan ran a stellar 200 to take home top honors,” pointed out Kmet.

Josh Mikulka is a senior who is also having a superb senior season for Twinsburg.

Mikulka achieved a rare double win in the hurdle races at Avon! He won the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.09 seconds and blazed to victory in the 300-meter race in 41.18 ticks.

“Josh Mikulka dominated the hurdle events, picking up two wins for us,” observed Kmet.

Another Twinsburg senior won an open race championship at Avon and that was Aiden Cain, who crossed first in the 800-meters race in 2-minutes and .07 seconds.

“Aiden won the 800 in what was a somewhat tactical race,” emphasized Kmet.

The Tigers won a relay championship in the 800-meter relay with a fast time of 1:30.11. This group included junior J.D. Roberson, Mikulka, senior Michael Cline Jr., and Doyle, the anchor runner.

Kmet was thrilled with the races by the boys in the relay events as well.

“The 800-meter relay took first place while the 400 and 3,200-meter relays took second place,” said a pleased Kmet.

Collecting a huge runner-up finish for the Tigers boys was the 3,200-meter relay that crossed in 8:25.75.

Making up the 3,200-meter relay was junior Aiden Bennage, freshman Evan Schneeman, junior Max Howard, and Cain, the anchor runner.

Senior Tyson Jacobs produced a big shot put throw of 48-feet and 4.0 inches to finish second overall.

“Tyson scored eight big points in the shot put,” noted Kmet.

Garnering a close second-place for the boys was the 400-meter relay of Roberson, sophomore Payton Jones, Cline, and Doyle. Their time was 43.87 seconds, just behind Avon at 43.55.

With a fast time of 25.59 seconds, sophomore Savannah Swanda captured the 200-meter dash title against a tight field of sprinters.

The Tigers girls’ 400-meter relay also won a title by posting a time of 49.29 seconds behind the running of sophomore Bree Banach, Swanda, senior Akira Johnson, and senior anchor Paris Gosha-Foreman.

Twinsburg’s 1,600-meter relay dominated the field with a winning time of 4-minutes and 7.52 seconds.

Making up the 1,600-meter relay was Banach, sophomore Sanayah Ruffin, junior Arriah Gilmer, and senior anchor runner Sophie Besett.

Also winning with some dominance was Twinsburg’s 800-meter relay, which was clocked at 1:45.29.

Comprising this group was Gosha-Foreman, Johnson, Swanda, and Gilmer, the anchor runner.

Swanda raced second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.40 seconds in a strong field of runners. She ran second to Westlake senior Sophia Kontak (12.37), a runner Swanda beat in the 200-meters.

Kontak was timed at 25.82 seconds in the 200-meter finals just behind Swanda and edging Tiger standout Gosha-Foreman, who crossed in 25.95 ticks to place third.

Besett, an Ohio University recruit, was the impressive runner-up in the 400-meter dash at Avon.

Crossing in 58.92 seconds, Besett beat some strong runners and the only athlete to beat her was North Ridgeville senior Gemma Kilgore (58.01).

Placing third at Avon in the long jump was senior Sydnee Donegan, who reached 15-7.50 feet for the Lady Tigers.

In the pole vault competition, Tiger junior Jessica Mason nailed down a strong fourth-place finish with an effort of 10-0 feet. Mason’s distance is one of the best in Twinsburg history.

Gilmer ran fourth in the 400-meters in 1:02.39.

Grabbing a big fourth-place in the pole vault was junior Josh Schiopota, who reached 11-6 feet!

“Josh really contributed in the pole vault,” said Kmet.

Roberson ran fourth in the 200-meter dash with a fast clocking of 23.01 seconds. The Tigers’ 1,600-meter took fourth in 3:40.15 behind the running of Jones, Mikulka, Cain, and Doyle.

Walker continues to run well in the hurdles for the Lady Tigers as she was fifth in the 100-meter race with a time of 16.47 seconds.

Junior Sophie Adick had a shot put throw of 33-5.5 feet to notch a strong fifth-place. Johnson took sixth for the girls in the 100-meters in 12.76 seconds
