A Terran viking rush is one of the most complex, and dangerous strategies for the Terran race in the Starcraft 2 video game for PC. It’s also one of the most effective, and surprising attacks you can do. It requires good defense macro, and knowing what your opponent is doing. The viking rush is so dangerous because of its limited ability to only attack either ground units or air units. Once on the ground, avoid units that do heavy damage, such as thors, marauders, and siege tanks. Also remember to scan your opponents from the very beginning. If you notice your rush might fail – it probably will, so stop and change it up. Use your vikings now to attack weak spots on your enemy’s base while building up a counter force to your enemies units (probably something effective against heavy units, like marauders and drop ships). If you notice however that your enemy doesn’t have units that will effectively combat your vikings, keep building. I generally build about two starports with reactors and pump out vikings non stop (along with other units to defend my base, such as siege tanks and marines). Always scan your opponents base, don’t even bother to build a rover after your first one. Here is the build order I usually follow:
- 10 SCV’s
- Supply Depot
- Barracks
- Refinery
- Upgrade Command Center
- Refinery
- Barracks upgrade (reactor)
- Factory
- Factory upgrade (reactor)
- Expand command center
- 1st starport, followed by a second one
- Lift factory and barracks (land them with tech labs)
- lift starports and connect to reactors
- Vikings (priority 1), Siege Tanks (priority 2), marines (priority 3)
Once you build up about twelve vikings, then you should fly through all those weak spots you found while scanning and land your vikings right in your enemy’s main base. Destroy all drones first, then go for upgrade buildings like the spawning pool or cybernetics core. Things that will make it hard for your opponent to rebuild their forces. If your vikings do some damage and are about to be attacked by a large force, back off and fly away. Build more vikings, attack more weak spots. Your enemy will soon either try to attack you and get wiped out by your defense, or continue trying to defend their base while getting annihilated by your small attacks.
